Sydney for New Year's and Armidale

Heading east to Sydney from the Blue Mountains we noticed the many apple pie cafes in the Bilpin area. We stopped and had a delicious homemade apple pie with cream and ice cream. If you are in the Bilpin area make sure you stop for some.

We stayed in Macquarie Park, just north-west of the Sydney CBD. We visited the local shopping Centre - Macquarie Centre and spent a few hours exploring and shopping. It has a fabulous array of shops including Zara, Sephora, H&M, Myer and David Jones. I did haul quite a bit of stuff from Sephora and will do a separate blog post on what I picked up. I loved the fit out of the Centre as you can see by the following photo.

We headed into Sydney to catch a football (soccer) match. Here is Sydney's Anzac Bridge.

We headed into Sydney's Allianz Stadium to watch the mighty Brisbane Roar take on Sydney FC. Unfortunately it was not the Roar's night. I think I bring them eternal bad luck.

We decided to enjoy New Year's Eve from our hotel room. Holding the ideal viewing spot for up to 12 hours, in the sultry heat, didn't appeal to me. These folks were set up at 12 noon - oh my, the dedication.

We had a distant view of the Harbour Bridge from our room and a wide-screen TV broadcasting the fireworks. We also had a fridge full of beer and wine, so we were set for an awesome night.

There were also a few cocktails consumed. My favourite is the Toblerone.

We headed in to Haberfield, home of many Italian eateries, and had our fill of eggplant lasagne, arancini, canolli and granita.

We decided to return to Brisbane via the inland highway. We stayed at Armidale on the way through. The town had some lovely old churches. Unfortunately it was an overcast day and challenging to photograph them.

Then on to Stanthorpe, our second home, where we stopped off for a very quick lunch before returning home to Brisbane.

What a wonderful holiday we had together.  A time for making lasting family memories.

Until next time xx
